For families discussing screening with an SLP Free resource

A starting point, not a label

A screener starts a conversation.

A screening can help identify whether further assessment may be useful. It does not diagnose a speech or language disorder. Here are four questions to bring to an SLP.

Explore SpeechLP

SpeechLP includes an in-app speech screener. Check the app for current access and offer details.

What does this screening look at?

Ask which skills were sampled and what it does not measure. A short sample is not the same as a full assessment.

How should we understand the result?

Ask the clinician to explain the finding in context, including your child’s languages, communication, and everyday situations.

Is another assessment recommended?

Ask whether follow-up is useful and who can help. Do not use a printable word list to diagnose your child or decide treatment yourself.

What is our next step?

Agree on a practical next step with your SLP. That may be a fuller assessment, more observation, or an existing plan for practice.

Make it useful

A plan you can keep.
